Raising Year 9 SATs Achievement

Blakeston School

Blakeston School A Community Sports College

Blakeston is a seven form, mixed 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school. It was formed in 1973 and serves a catchment area to the north west of Stockton-On-Tees, comprising both council and private housing estates.

The school has been using InQuizitor since late 2006.

How InQuizitor Was Used

To raise their Year 9 SATs results, staff at Blakeston carefully devised a plan:

Teachers expect to see an impact on results when they are announced, noting that students were "more engaged and motivated using the InQuizitor materials" and "we were able to target specific support through the use of our own material rather than being forced to use generic content".

This in itself would be a good example of carefully considered use of InQuizitor, but perhaps the most significant aspect of this intervention is that pupils were additionally using InQuizitor in their own time, extending the impact of the materials far beyond their timetabled use.

"Pupils responded well with a significant number using the material through break and lunch times as well as after school."

Staff now plan to create further KS3 and KS4 material during joint planning time and have implemented an InQuizitor recording document for pupils to store screenshots of their progress on the High Score Table - and are offering prizes to encourage even further participation.
