InQuizitor Case Study
Preparation for Internal Assessments
Mearns Castle High School
Mearns Castle High School is a non-denominational, co-educational, comprehensive school with 1500 students from S1 to S6. It is located in Newton Mearns, Glasgow.
The school has been involved with InQuizitor since it's pre-release phases.
How InQuizitor Was Used
The Computing Studies department set up InQuizitor Quizzes with 20 questions to replicate the format of a NAB assessment, using similar standard of question and structures based on previous NAB (National Assessment Bank) questions.
A NAB is a pack of materials, provided by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), which can be used for assessing whether a student has achieved the appropriate standard required to achieve a pass in a National Qualifications unit. They provide support materials for teachers carrying out the internal assessment of units.
What Happened
In S3 (Yr 10), teachers used a mixture of traditional paper based practice assessments and Hot Potatoes as a computer-based quiz system. In S4, they introduced InQuizitor as a method of preparation and revision.
"The NAB results were undoubtedly improved following the successful use of InQuizitor."
Additionally, pupils actually ask to use InQuizitor and teachers have been able to use this as a reward at the end of a topic.
Next Steps
Following a successful trial with my senior pupils the department now intend to develop their Question Banks further. They plan to use InQuizitor with every year group and continue to monitor improvements in assessment results.
